Preservation with PDF/A: DPC publishes new Technology Watch Report

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and Charles Beagrie Ltd have released the latest in their series of Technology Watch Reports today. Preservation with PDF/A by Betsy A. Fanning, AIIM provides a comprehensive review of the standard and its use, in order to help readers best ensure the integrity of their digital information.

An update to the original Technology Watch Report, Preserving the Data Explosion: Using PDF published in 2008, the report begins with a history of the PDF/A standard and its development, before moving on to an examination of conformance levels, validation methods and considerations to be made when choosing to use PDF/A for long-term preservation.

CoreTrustSeal Certification Launched

The ICSU World Data System (ICSU-WDS) and the Data Seal of Approval (DSA) are pleased to announce the launch of a new certification organization: CoreTrustSeal.

The CoreTrustSeal Board offers all interested data repositories a core-level certification based on the DSA–WDS Core Trustworthy Data Repositories Requirements catalogue and procedures. CoreTrustSeal Data Repository certification replaces the DSA certification and the WDS certification of Regular Members.

‘Save the Bits:’ DPC compiles list of Digitally Endangered Species

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is inviting nominations to a new a global list of the most ‘at risk’ Digitally Endangered Species. The list will be reviewed by an international panel of DPC members and will be published as its contribution to the first International Digital Preservation Day (IDPD17) on 30th November 2017.

Like the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM, the DPC’s 'Bit List' of Digitally Endangered Species will highlight the need for action to preserve high-value digital content that is critically endangered, whilst celebrating the great progress the digital preservation community has made to ensure our generation’s digital memory is accessible tomorrow.
