This post provides a great opportunity to help develop digital preservation policy and practice for deposited and institutional records held at the Modern Records Centre (MRC) at the University of Warwick. This is a full time, permanent position building on earlier development work in digital preservation and working closely with the archivists at the MRC, the Records Manager, Research Data Manager and others across the University.

The team is looking for someone with sound technical and professional knowledge and experience of digital preservation theory and practice, including the appraisal, curation and processing of collections in line with recognised standards. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, confident and possess excellent communication skills. The candidate will:

  1. Manage, develop and implement policies and procedures.
  2. Prepare, process and manage digital materials (digitised and born-digital content) deposited in the MRC; advise on formats, methods of transfer, receipt and storage; to process deposits using appropriate systems/software (e.g. Archivematica).
  3. Advise and train colleagues in MRC and the Library on issues relating to digital preservation, covering policies and practical requirements as appropriate.
  4. Liaise with other relevant colleagues across the University, including staff responsible for corporate records (including records management), research data, University archives and IT Services.

You will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of preservation theory, best practice, trends and technical standards for digital archives, including copyright, content management, access, migration and preservation.
  • Relevant experience of the management and preservation of born-digital and digitised resources, including the appraisal, curation and processing of collections in line with recognised standards.
  • A track record of effectively promoting good practice in digital preservation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering on policies and procedures for digital curation and preservation.
  • Knowledge of, and expertise in, data storage methods, media and security.
  • Experience of using digital preservation tools and systems (e.g. Archivematica, Preservica, etc.).
